About Me

My photo
They say life begins at 40, but I've often wondered who the mystical 'they' are, I'm going for Druids personally, what about you? Despite working in Insurance all my years and still do, I crave a change with more independence for my working day and also greater excitement, which I'm hoping writing will create. So I'm donning my creative hat and jumping in with two big feet. I welcome all and your comments, though please keep it civil. I'm also very interested to link with fellow writers to shoot the breeze.

Glasgow Rangers Saviours???????????????

Another week of debacle surrounding Glasgow Rangers, which as proud follow of this great football club only increases my sadness at what has befallen them.

Yet all I seem to hear is Craig Whyte is a bad guy, Charles Green is a bad guy, yet limited although increasing vents against former owner (Sir?) David Murray and those who were associated with him, namely Dave King, the wealthy South African, who is fighting his own 'Big Tax' case, which somewhat raises questions over his credentials for making any honorable comment, as it seems he's probably been well involved in any Tax Exemption discussions.  Yet still he comments that he has millions available to invest in Rangers, should conditions prove right, but not just right now.  Although he has suggested someone needs to invest heavily on a 'Non-commercial' basis, or is that business speak for Money Pit?

We've heard various stories of Rangers Minded businessmen with vast wealth promising to make sure the club survives and remains where it should, yet where are these wealth businessmen?  Some of which have been quoted as having a personal wealth in excess of £800m, but yet have quibbled over a purchase of a club to the value of only £6m, a drop in the ocean of the wealth of only ONE of the proposed investors.

Frankly, I don't see there being any White Blue or any other coloured Knight coming to Rangers rescue.   Many will say and have said that chickens are coming home to roost for one of the mighty Glasgow clubs, who have shown arrogance over the rest of Scottish Football and therefore a good riddance to one side, which may allow other clubs to potentially challenge for honours.

Now this last aspect puzzles me, as I seem to recall at a time when all were pleading to revamp Scottish Football as it was dying on its feet, with commercial money reducing, there was talk of increasing the league to sixteen or even eighteen teams, playing each other only once home and away, thus freeing more time up for winter breaks, International preparation, youth development and other attractions, with the hope being that games would be lest stale without the potential for playing up to six times against an opponent dependent on cup ties, not including replays.

This change was quickly turned down by all, in favour of keeping the four games a season particularly against the Old Firm, for revenue reasons.  Wonder where that money will come from now?  Why were chairmen not so bold then, which may have improved the game, increased revenues and benefited the national side.

As a Rangers fan, whilst sad at the state of my club, so much of what has happened it deserves, for years of buying success through greed and underhand channels, at the vastly criticised expense of youth players, so many of whom weren't given a chance.  This was largely the managements fault, be that Walter, Dick, Graeme or whoever, but was also the fault of the Rangers support, so dim in its ability to show any compassion to a player having bad day, being played out of position or just simply young and inexperienced. The vitriol which cascades down from the stands is reported as being Simply the Best, a challenging place for opponents. I'd say it's more challenging for our own team.  A perfect example of the kind of cotton headed morons I refer to, relates to chap I used to sit beside who took great pleasure to voice his colourful displeasure at members of the Catholic persuasion, at a time when the Rangers Club captain, was Lorenzo Amoruso, who almost in the same breath he sang for, praised, loved, yet seemed to be unaware old Amo was a proud Tim.

Morons, Rangers goes to the wall because of many factors, ignorance, bigotry, greed, laziness and foolishness.  Scottish football may well suffer, but it has been killing itself for years, much like football in general.

Whilst I will continue to be sad at what has befallen Rangers, I am more increasingly angry for the above reasons.

Away day to Arran

What am I up to? That's a good question, well for the last two days I was with my wife, Sharon and my lovely and very playful Golden Retriever puppy called Bailey, who turned 1 on Monday.
This was the first break I've had away with Sharon since all my troubles began last February and those who know me will know what they were.

It was great to get away albeit only one night and we headed off to the wonderful Isle of Arran to stay at the equally wonderful Auchrannie Spa resort.

Thankfully the weather stayed calm and somewhat warm on occasions, which was helpful to the main purpose of walking with Bailey, who adored the beach as usual, who at one point attempted to swim back to Ardrossan in pursuit of two ducks until (thankfully) he realised he wasn't going to win that race and came back.

A visit also to Arran Aromatics and Arran Chesses was eventful as some kindly man, working on restoration at the ferry port managed to hit an electric cable, causing a loss of power to both shops, so shopping by candlelight became the norm.  Still Arran didn't disappoint, with the staff in both shops being as friendly and helpful as you could hope for.  And if the soaps and beauty products aren't to your taste, the brewery is just a short walk further down the road towards the castle.

So it was home yesterday and up today to find the weather has turned for the worst, with hopefully, though not in any way expecting, this to be the last of the April showers.  I'm keeping just about everything crossed for a pleasant enough May and great summer.  Lord knows with financial downturns, Football clubs collapsing, a return to work looming and writers block I need some nice sunshine to look forward too.

Getting Started

As a prospective new writer in a modern world, I felt it time to consider 'A Blog', seems to be the new fangled way of putting your views and personality out there.

So here I am, 40 and embarking on a new, exciting and hopefully rewarding new chapter, where success and millions lie ahead when my new best seller gets published!!!!

Or perhaps just the odd tenner here and there for a story or poem sold to Old Coggers Weekly or Teen Chavs  Daily, whichever I've picked up that week for a competition.

A shout out must go to my Writers Club, Ayr Writers Club, http://www.ayrwritersclub.co.uk/, first and foremost full of like minded good natured people of some considerable talent, who if you are an aspiring writer in the Ayrshire area, could do worse than coming along to one of the Wednesday night meetings, see the website for more details.

As for today, it is chilly but blue skied and dry outside, chores to be done with possibly a little creativity if my mind can summon it later on.
